Unicycle
Till the late 1800s, unicycles were used mainly by per-
formers and acrobats. The basic form remained more or
less the same. The beginning of the 19th century and the
subsequent rise in enthusiasts inspired manufacturers to
come up with their own new designs. Today there are
seatless (called ‘ultimate wheel'), the tall ('giraffe') uni-
cycle, the offroad unicycle (‘muni') for mountain unicy-
cling and trials unicycle which have a nubbed tire to with-
stand the stresses of jumping, dropping, and supporting
the weight of rider during unicycle trials.
