A taste of Australia

A four-month long cultural festival was announced in India by the Australian government starting from October. Peter Varghese, Australian High Commissioner to India, was present in Mumbai to launch the Oz fest, said to be the biggest ever cultural festival held in India. The festival will span across 18 cities presenting nearly 100 events. “We have a lot to offer in terms of the kinds of events we have organised for the festival which is why we chose an elaborate festival than a four-day event,” says Peter. The Oz fest will showcase Australia through major events across India in an attempt to give Indians a taste of Australian culture. Some of the highlights include the opening night concert held at Purana Qila in New Delhi with musician Anoushka Shankar taking stage with Aboriginal singer Gurrumul Yunupingu, a Melbourne International comedy festival, Australian bands performing, Deep Blue Orchestra, a theatrical orchestra, puppet shows and contemporary dance pieces.
